Product: Nitrocellulose Production Facility in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.

Description of Project: Millipore Sigma established the first and only domestic nitrocellulose production facility, which is located in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. The factory is already producing nitrocellulose for the diagnostics and research industries in the United States. Nitrocellulose membranes are an essential component of lateral flow diagnostics and used in research applications. The facility is ISO-9001 certified and acheived LEED Gold Certification. Nitrocellulose membranes are used in a wide variety of tests, including cardiac marker tests (heart attack tests), glucose test strips (diabetes), HIV tests, and respiratory / infectious disease testing.

Unique Impact: The new facility will produce approximately 600–700 kilometers of lateral flow membrane annually. That is equivalent to almost 1 billion medical devices worth of materials. The facility has also achieved LEED Gold certification, reflecting a commitment to environmental stewardship.
