Student Volunteer Opportunity: Partnership Meeting Planning & Outreach Support

Program Overview:

Within the HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), the Division of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) coordinates the activities of HHS as the Sector Risk Management Agency for the Healthcare and Public Health (HPH) Sector of Critical Infrastructure. The Division promotes resilience of the Nation’s health infrastructure by leading a dynamic, public-private partnership, drawing from all aspects of the HPH Sector, to prepare for future threats, manage risks, and coordinate effective response. CIP aligns its HPH infrastructure activities through partnerships, focusing on key organizations, executives, emergency managers, and subject matter experts.

Volunteer Position Description:

The Partnership Meeting Planning & Outreach Support Student Volunteer will play an integral role in IAP’s coordination of the HPH Sector’s Government Coordinating Council (GCC), to include its efforts to revitalize, grow and expand the GCC. Tasks associated with this for the Student Volunteer will range from assisting with developing the agenda of and inviting/coordinating with speakers for its standing meetings to outreach and engagement with potential as well as current GCC members to developing innovative ways to bolster interactions with and participation from GCC partners/members.

As part of this, the Student Volunteer will be asked to assist in event planning tasks associated with the HPH Partnership's semi-annual meeting such as coordinating/communicating logistics for the meeting; researching and securing hotel room blocks; inviting speakers and organizing panel sessions; tracking and reporting out on progress; creating online registration for participants; tracking registration and answering questions posed by potential participants and speakers.

  • Likes to engage and interact with a wide variety of individuals
  • Excellent communicator - written and oral
  • Good customer service
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good multi-tasker
  • Task oriented
  • Works well in groups - can lead, also can take direction/follow established procedures and work collaboratively on efforts
  • Works well independently
  • Background or course work in health/public health or project management preferred
  • Event/meeting/conference planning/management or course work/training which can include organizing and leading student groups or organizing student/school/team/sorority/fraternity functions/events preferred
  • Experience in expanding/growing an organization’s membership
  • Experience in developing a plan or anything at the strategic level related to expanding an organization’s membership/reach/engagement/outreach preferred

Start Date and Duration

This position will begin in early 2023 for a duration of no more than six months.  Starting dates will vary.  The number of hours per week for this position will be determined jointly by the volunteer and the program management.
