About the HPH Sector
The Healthcare and Public Health (HPH) Sector is one of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors authorized by
Presidential Policy Directive 21 with a mission to protect essential healthcare and public health assets and services from existential threats. The HPH Sector’s activities are led by ASPR’s Division of Critical Infrastructure Protection, and organized around a strong partnership between federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial (FSLTT) governments with private sector owners and operators to protect critical infrastructure, including space (e.g., facilities), staff (e.g., healthcare workers), stuff (e.g., personal protective equipment), and systems (e.g., information technology).
Since the majority of the Sector’s assets are privately owned and operated, collaboration and information-sharing between the public and private sectors is essential to increasing resilience of the nation's HPH critical infrastructure. As such, under CIP’s coordination and oversight, the HPH Sector convenes private sector partners across six subsectors: direct patient care, health information technology, health plans and payers, mass fatality management services, medical materials, and laboratories, blood, and pharmaceuticals with counterparts with respective equities from FSLTT partners.
