ASPR's Response to Hurricane Idalia
ASPR deployed medical providers and disaster management professionals, including responders from the members of the
National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), to Florida to address the potential health impacts of Hurricane Idalia. These teams supported health care facility assessments, ensured that emergency vehicles were resupplied with life-saving medications, and provided clinical services to augment local health systems if needed. In addition to the NDMS personnel, ASPR deployed an incident management team, Regional Emergency Coordinators, Public Health Service Officers, and logistics staff to work in collaboration with FEMA, Florida health authorities, and emergency response officials.
Secretary Becerra has declared a
public health emergency and
authorized flexibilities for CMS beneficiaries. These actions and flexibilities are retroactive to August 27, 2023.
