Call for Public Comments: National Biodefense Strategy Implementation
Comment period closed on May 1, 2019.
Nearly 800 people joined in a public conversation April 17, 2019 to discuss non-federal biodefense actions that have been taken or are needed to protect the American people from biological threats. Even if you missed the discussion, you can still submit your input as part of an information assessment that will be used to help drive the comprehensive coordination of federal biodefense actions and budgets, as called for in the National Biodefense Strategy. While interaction with non-federal organizations and agencies will continue, input received by May 1, 2019, will be considered in the federal assessment.
The National Biodefense Strategy sets the course for U.S. to combat the real and serious biothreats our country faces, whether they arise from natural outbreaks of disease, accidents involving high consequence pathogens, or the actions of terrorists or state actors.
Goal 1 – Enabling Risk Awareness to Inform Decision Making across the Biodefense Enterprise
- What are the most significant gaps or challenges, either at the national level or within your business sector, related to the implementation of Goal 1 of the Strategy (Risk Awareness)?
- What are the highest priority actions addressing Goal 1 of the Strategy that would best advance biodefense?

- What are the highest priority actions addressing Goal 2 of the Strategy that would best advance biodefense?

Goal 3 – Ensure Biodefense Preparedness Enterprise to Reduce the Impacts of Bioincidents

Goal 5 – Facilitate Recovery to Restore the Community, the Economy, and the Environment after a Bioincident?
- What are the most significant gaps or challenges, either at the national level or within your business sector, related to implementation of Goal 5 of the Strategy (Recovery)?
- What are the highest priority actions addressing Goal 5 of the Strategy that would best advance biodefense?
- What new initiatives are planned by your sector that would contribute to filling gaps in our ability to recover and restore the community, the economy, and the environment after a bioincident?
- What proposed initiatives would be most effective in ensuring a robust national capacity to recover from bioincidents?
