Frequently Asked Questions and Answers Regarding COVID-19 Vaccine Ancillary Kits

COVID-19 vaccines and ancillary supplies will be procured and distributed by the federal government at no cost to enrolled COVID-19 vaccination providers.

Each standard adult ancillary kit for use with the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson contains supplies to administer 100 doses of vaccine (with some overage). Supplies include:

• Needles
• Syringes
• Alcohol pads
• Vaccination record cards
• Needle gauge and length charts
• Face shields
• Surgical masks

Each large combined ancillary kit for use with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine will support 1170 doses of vaccine (with some overage). Supplies include:

• Needles
• Syringes
• Alcohol pads
• Vaccination record cards
• Needle gauge and length charts
• Face shields
• Surgical masks
• Mixing kits also are included in for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which requires reconstitution with diluent or mixing with adjuvant at the point of administration.

Products and brands for kit components may vary.

Needles and syringes for vaccine administration may be packaged as integrated units (i.e., combo needles and syringes for which NO assembly required) or as separate items in a kit (i.e., assembly required).

Due to a limited supply of needles and syringes, SNS is unable to fulfill requests for specific needles or syringes. In order to meet the demand for supplies, the federal government has purchased single-use, sterile needles and syringes from multiple manufacturers to ensure adequate supplies. These products are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, safety-engineered and compliant with standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

For immunizations, pediatric is considered birth through 18 years and adult is 19 years and older. Refer to each product’s emergency use authorization for age indications.
