Ordering HHS-Provided JYNNEOS through HPOP

ASPR/CDC Mpox Vaccination Operational Planning Guide - HHS Mpox Vaccination Program

Product Ordering

The current thresholds for JYNNEOS will continue until April 30, 2024, enabling jurisdictions to order product through HPOP to facilitate access in circumstances in which commercial product is inaccessible. On April 30, 2024, at 9:00 AM ET, HHS will close the current mechanism of ordering against thresholds by setting all thresholds to zero. If additional supply is required after that date in circumstances where commercial supply is not available or accessible, JYNNEOS will be available by request using the established out-of-cycle request process. Ordering of the HHS-procured JYNNEOS is anticipated to fully close on or near August 1, 2024. Availability through CDC’s routine vaccine programs is anticipated on or near August 1, 2024.

  • Ordering smaller quantities will aid the jurisdictions, enabling targeting vials where they are needed most and minimizing wastage. This will help jurisdictions reduce the need to redistribute vials to correct for less-than-optimal placement throughout the jurisdiction.
  • Jurisdictions should feel free to plan and schedule vaccine distribution, clinics, second doses, and events knowing that the full threshold will remain available as you continue to use supply per CDC recommendations.
  • Orders are fulfilled by the SNS to deliver these medical countermeasures. Please submit any questions concerning order status, shipment delivery updates, and temperature validation directly to SNS at sns.ops@hhs.gov
  • The minimum order quantity (MOQ) for USG-provided JYNNEOS is 20 vials. All orders must be placed in increments of 20.

The following are required for ordering JYNNEOS through HPOP:

  • Reporting administration data in the IIS system.
  • Inventory reporting in HPOP.
  • Product specifications (HHS distributed supply):
    • Labeled as a single-dose vial (0.5mL), 20 vials per box, box dimensions 5.5 x 1.5 x 4 inches. The actual fill volume of each vial is 6.4mL.
    • Minimum order quantity (MOQ) is 1 box, 20 vials.

To continue slowing the spread of mpox, jurisdictions should focus on ordering vaccines to be distributed in areas of highest transmission. If there is little ongoing transmission, vaccination efforts should focus on increasing vaccination coverage for those at risk of exposure to mpox with an emphasis on reducing disparities.

Supplemental Orders Above Thresholds (Out-of-Cycle Requests)

Jurisdictions can request additional vials if they anticipate exceeding their set thresholds and must use the OOC request process after April 30, 2024, at 9:00 AM ET. Requests for vaccine should include sufficient demonstration of the commitment to use previously distributed and commercial supply as the primary options. Additional JYNNEOS vaccine should only be requested to improve vaccination rates within recommended populations while commercial availability and reimbursement systems ramp up and only to support access in circumstances in which commercial product is not available or accessible.

  1. Jurisdictions may initiate a request for additional vials through the established OOC request process in Tiberius or by contacting CDC at poxvirus@cdc.gov or calling (770) 488-7100 (CDC EOC phoneline).
  2. A statement attesting to appropriate vaccine use and inventory management should be included in the request:
    • Name of person making request (or point of contact) and phone/email
    • Number of vials requested (rounded up to increments of 20)
    • Estimate of the number of current vials remaining in jurisdictional supply, inclusive of all unused vials at site of initial delivery and an estimate of the approximate number of unused vials at downstream sites (e.g., provider sites)
    • Please note this is intended to be an estimate and not a complete inventory
    • Number of administered 1st and 2nd doses
    • Description of why additional vaccine is needed, including why commercially available JYNNEOS vaccine is not available or accessible to the intended recipients
    • Vaccination plan including population to be vaccinated, expected number of doses to be administered, and the location(s) in which the vaccine will be administered

It is the responsibility of every provider who prepares and administers injections, or supervises those that prepare and administer injections, to make sure that patients receive the correct medication and are not exposed to life-threatening infections. Providers should adhere to Standard Precautions and the principles of Safe Injection Practices, including the use of a sterile, single-use, disposable needles and syringes for each injection administered, and prevention of contamination of injection equipment and medication.

Product Transfer

Jurisdictions are encouraged to share/transfer excess product that has been stored according to its specifications. Product can be transferred within a jurisdiction or to other jurisdictions, if needed, in accordance to state and local regulations. We request that jurisdictions maintain inventory records regarding any products that are shared in the respective transferring and receiving entities’ documentation.
